My #OETC17 Sessions

I’ve attended Ohio’s Educational Technology Conference (OETC) the past couple of years. This year I made it a goal to apply to present. I’m thrilled that I was accepted to do a workshop and a session! I’ve put the details and descriptions of the sessions I’ll be doing below.  If you’ll be there, I would love to meet you in person at the conference!

Global Collaboration in the Classroom

Session Description:
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has developed internationally accepted standards for technology use and skills for students, teachers, administrators, coaches and computer science teachers, which all have a component (with the exception of computer science teachers) about connecting and collaborating with people from other cultures on a global scale. But, where do you even start to find another classroom in another place around the world? What can you do once you find them? In this session, you will work through resources and tools to get you started with global collaboration projects by looking at collaborative features in Google Apps for Education and Google Hangouts, resources to find other classrooms, and types of projects you could do with those classrooms.
Learning Objectives:
  • Teachers will understand the importance of global collaboration to help prepare students for jobs of the future.
  • Teachers will become familiar with ISTE standards for teachers and students, with a focus on the global collaboration
  • Teachers will learn about tools and explore resources so they can find teachers, with whom to connect their classrooms and implement global collaboration activities with students.

Session Description:
This is a local membership meeting of the ISTE Ed Tech Coaches Network. We welcome Ed Tech Coaches of all experience levels to join us as we gather to form connections and share ideas that will benefit you, your colleagues, and your students throughout the entire year.
Learning Objectives:
The purpose of this session is to provide an opportunity for those who serve as Ed Tech Coaches to gather together for collaboration, mentorship and professional development. As the role of a coach changes from school district to school district, many different models for the position exist. Additionally, the amount of support available for those in this role varies greatly. Coming together allows the members of ISTE’s Ed Tech Coaches PLN to share strategies, tools and lessons learned. This sharing empowers them with new skills and perspectives as they return to their individual situations equipped to carry out their mission as it relates to strategic and powerful uses of technology in the classroom. The objectives for this session are threefold:
  • Provide an opportunity for coaches to collaborate and problem solve
  • Share new and innovative uses of technology
  • Encourage new and renewed connections between Ed Tech Coaches through the communication channels hosted by the ISTE EdTech Coaches PLN
